Dior: from backstage to beauty-cases

Backstage products for a daily beauty routine? Dior has finally made our dream come true. We all know that beauty is intimately linked in Dior’s DNA and that the Dior make-up artists always create unique looks at every fashion show. Sure enough, you remember what happened just a few days ago, at the AW’14 show, when Pat McGrath experimented with a latex paint on the models’ lids to achieve an incredible glassy finish. Well, the credit for the striking eye was all hers, but she had a little help from a new revolutionary range of products: the Backstage Pros. Highly professional, these unique products in single shades, offer instant beauty solutions that enhance, plump up, revive radiance and prolong make-up hold.

No illusions, it is all true. I gave them a test and I was truly impressed. Used on their own, they serve to enhance natural beauty (that’s what I did today) but as part of a make-up routine, they open upon whole new horizons. 

My overall favorites are the ‘Glow’ ones. I like them because - although the punchy colours - they suit each individual complexion and they give a tailor-made result to everyone. The Dior Addict Lip Glow is an ‘awakening’ balm that can be used alone or as a make-up base. Basically it reacts with the pH of the lips to enhance their natural colour. The Rosy Glow blush works similarly and, reacting to the skin's moisture, gives a lovely bonne mine effect to the cheeks. For a radiant complexion apply the Rosy Glow on the upper part of the checks with little circular movements and you will see a delicious and naturally radiant pink rise through. It is funny to see how the colour changes through the day! As far as the mani, the Nail Glow is a sheer nail polish that enhances the nails in a few brush strokes, giving them a pinker look except for the tips, which somehow seem whiter. When layered over other similar hues, it enhances their color as well.

In addition to the ‘Glows’, Dior studied other products for complexion and eyes as well. As we all know the skin on the runways has to be flawless. That is why Dior developed three basic products to even it out: the Pore Minimizer, a primer that smoothes and  buffs away any imperfections; the Glow Maximizer, a genuine radiance booster that revive the complexion's natural glow and easily sculpts the facial contours; the Skinflash that, applied on the 5 key facial zones (tip of the chin, nose ridge, forehead cheeks and around the nostrils) illuminates, corrects and sculpts. The bright side of the two primers is that you can use them also on top of make-up for easy retouches during the day.

As far as the eye, the first key product is the Eye Prime a long-wear primer that prepares and smoothes the eyelid for a long-wear hold. Then comes Diorshow Maximizer which, with its unique formula, is used as a base to revitalise the lashes and boost their growth. Applied on top, Diorshow Iconic Overcurl mascara gives the lashes a spectacular curl. Its secrets are an incurved brush - modeled after professional eyelash curlers - and a stretch-effect formula for spectacularly shaped lashes. 

Last but not least my favorite eyeliner so far: Diorshow Art Pen. An intense, professional felt-tip eyeliner with a long-lasting formula. I just love its high-precision applicator, it allows you to dress the eyes with various lines, from the thinner - as I did today - to the most dramatic cat-eye.

Quando sfila, Christian Dior non solo porta in passerella abiti couture, ma enfatizza anche i visi delle modelle lasciando trasparire un ideale di bellezza d’impatto.

All’ultima sfilata per l’AI2014 Pat McGrath, a capo del team di Make-Up Artists Dior, non ha fatto passare inosservato nemmeno un battito di ciglia e ha sperimentato dipingendo le palpebre delle mannequins con vernici al lattice. Per farlo ha avuto il supporto di prodotti ad alto tasso di innovazione, i Backstage Pros, una gamma esclusiva che si contraddistingue per le sue nuance universali. Dal viso agli occhi fino a labbra e unghie, i Backstage Pros si adattano ad ogni incarnato, donando luminosità, levigatezza e una maggiore tenuta del make-up. 

Niente illusioni, è tutto vero. Dimenticatevi le ore spese alla ricerca della tonalità perfetta, i Backstage Pros sono dei prodotti strategici, degli alleati, di cui non potrete più fare a meno. Non ci credete? Metteteli alla prova, come ho fatto io.

In assoluto i miei preferiti sono tre, i cosiddetti 'Glow'. A partire dal Dior Addict Lip Glow, un balsamo che, reagendo al tasso di umidità delle labbra, ne ravviva il colore. Perfetto per chi di giorno non vuole star dietro ai ritocchi, si applica come un semplice burro di cacao, ma è stato studiato anche come primer da utilizzare prima del rossetto.

Stesso concetto per il Rosy Glow, un blush universale che dona il tanto ricercato effetto bonne mine. Per far rinascere delicatamente il colore delle guance basta applicarlo con leggeri movimenti circolari sulla parte alta degli zigomi. Non fatevi spaventare dal colore shock, sulla vostra pelle il risultato sarà più soft.  

Infine il Nail Glow, l’unico smalto all-in-one che risalta il bianco e il rosa naturale dell’unghia per una french manicure delicata ed elegante. Inoltre, se usato come base, enfatizza il colore scelto per la manicure.

All’incarnato ci pensano poi il Pore Minimizer e il Glow Maximizer. Il primo è un primer che uniforma e leviga veramente ed è perfetto per i ritocchi on-the-go durante la giornata mentre, il secondo, illumina il colorito definendo i contorni del viso e può anche essere usato per creare dei punti luce strategici (come zigomi e cupid's bow). Cosa che può essere fatta anche con il Skinflash un pennello illuminante da usare su mento, fronte, parte centrale e parte laterale del naso.

Last but not least, gli occhi. Per chi non può fare a meno della lunga tenuta c’è il Backstage Eye Prime, una base lisciante e fissante che prepara l’occhio a ricevere il trucco successivo. Personalmente mi piace usarlo anche da solo. A incorniciare lo sguardo ci pensano poi il Diorshow Maximizer, una base che giorno dopo giorno sublima le ciglia, e il Diorshow Iconic Overcurl, un mascara professionale che dona volume, lunghezza e una curvatura degna di piegaciglia. Non per niente il pettinino ha una forma studiata apposta per rendere le ciglia al meglio. In ultimo, un prodotto di cui non posso più fare a meno, il Diorshow Art Pen, un eye-liner che grazie alla sua punta in feltro morbida ma precisa permette di modulare il tratto per raggiungere risultati diversi. Oggi io mi sono tenuta sul minimal, andando solo a sottolineare l'attaccatura delle ciglia, ma garantisco che con l'Art Pen si può ottenere anche il più drammatico dei cat-eye (se continuate a seguirmi lo scoprirete presto!).
