I Love Coco: the story behind the new Rouge Coco lipstick
Non sempre dietro a una collezione di colori, a una palette di nuance, c’è una storia degna di essere raccontata. Ma la Maison Chanel non si smentisce e nel reinventare la formula dei suoi Rouge Coco - da oggi, unica nel suo genere - pensa anche ad ammaliare il pubblico con un po’ di storia. Quella della vita di Coco Chanel, racchiusa in 6 famiglie di colore, per un totale di 24 nuance che incarnano ognuna una persona che ha segnato la vita di Mademoiselle, con i suoi gusti, il suo carattere e i suoi segni distintivi.
Per iniziare, i Nudi rappresentano la sua famiglia; ad esempio Adrienne (n.402) era la zia di Coco, una donna dal carattere forte come quello di Gisele Bündchen che, nello spot “The One That I Want”, ha voluto indossare proprio la suddetta sfumatura. Gli Aranci si fanno invece portavoce di tutte quelle donne che hanno ispirato Mademoiselle e che vengono evocate tutt’oggi nelle collezioni Chanel; come Misia (n.418), amica di Mademoiselle e musa del suo tempo, a cui la Maison ha difatti recentemente dedicato anche un inaspettato profumo esclusivo. Senza voler poi peccar di presunzione, il n.416 incarna proprio Coco, perché a volte nel guardarsi dentro si trova molta più forza che nell’imitazione dell’altro. I Rosa parlano invece di tutte le amiche di Mademoiselle, in un’ode al legame che lega le donne per tutta una vita, nonostante complicazioni e difficoltà; pensate a Vera Bate Lombardi (n.420), la socialitie inglese che, nel 1920, diventò la sua prima vera e propria PR. E ancora i Rosa Antichi, fra cui Suzanne Orlandi (n.438), la donna che ebbe l’onore di indossare il primo abito creato da Coco. I Rossi, poi, non potevano essere altro che gli amori della vita della stilista, come Arthur, il giocatore di polo meglio conosciuto come Boy Capel, che oltre ad essere compagno ed ispirazione di Mademoiselle svolse un ruolo primario nella sua carriera finanziando l’apertura della sua prima boutique, 21 Rue Cambon. In ultimo, i Porpora, colore della creatività a rappresentare i suoi amici artisti e, prima fra tutti, Emilienne d’Aleçon, colei che ha contribuito a lanciare le prime creazioni di Coco - i cappelli - nell’alta borghesia francese.
Scoprite tutte le sfumature della nuova gamma, vi conquisteranno sia per la fedeltà del colore sia grazie alla nuova formula Rouge Coco: ancora più idratante e decisamente rimpolpante. Dopo averli testati posso dirvi con certezza che Rouge Coco è il rossetto più idratante che abbia mai toccato le mie labbra e, oltre ad aver adorato il fatto che sia talmente versatile da poter essere modulato a piacere per un finish traslucido o più pieno, ho trovato la sua texture setosa e luminosa come non mai, leggerissima nonostante sia ricco di cere nutrienti, e performante nel riempire al meglio le linee di disidratazione. Non sarà certo il lipstick più long-lasting che il mercato ha da offrire (a meno che non gli creiate una base con una Crayon Lèvres, come suggerisce Silvia Dell'Orto, makeup artist Chanel) ma Rouge Coco è un rossetto diverso dal normale in quanto rivoluziona la gestualità dell’applicazione: rimetterlo non è una pena bensì un piacere oltre che ad un trattamento beauty d’eccezione. Portatelo sempre con voi in borsetta, diventerà vostro complice e alleato.
It is not so usual to hear that behind a makeup collection or a palette of nuances there is a story worth to be told but, as we all know, at Chanel’s they take everything - even the most tiny detail - to the next level and this time around they have decided to charm us with a little bit of history, using the new Rouge Coco lipstick range as storyteller to narrate Coco Chanel’s life. With its totally reinvented formula - so far, one of a kind - the Rouge Coco collection comes in 6 colour harmonies for a total of 24 shades, each of which is named after a person who marked Mademoiselle’s life, respecting his taste, his character and his nature.
Hence, the Nudes symbolize her family and Adrienne (n. 402) - my favorite and the PERFECT nude - was Coco’s aunt, a woman with a strong character such as Gisele Bündchen's, who in the spot "The One That I Want" wanted to wear just this shade. Oranges, then, are mouthpiece for all those women who have inspired Mademoiselle and that are evoked still today in Chanel’s collections; speaking of which, the French Maison has recently dedicated an exclusive scent to Misia (n. 418), a friend of Mademoiselle and muse of her time. Leaving cockiness aside, n. 416 embodies Coco, because sometimes in looking inside yourself you can gain more strength than in the imitation of others.
The third family of shades, the Roses, speaks of all of Mademoiselle’s girlfriends, in an ode to the bonds that tie-up women over a lifetime, despite all the complications and difficulties; i.e. think about Vera Bate Lombardi (n. 420), the English socialitie that, in 1920, became Coco’s first PR. And moreover the Rosewoods, including Suzanne Orlandi (438), the woman who had the honor of wearing the first dress created by Mademoiselle. The Reds, then, could not be anything but Chanel’s true loves, as Arthur, the polo player better known as Boy Capel, who besides being Mademoiselle’s companion and inspiration played a major role in her career by financing the opening of her first boutique, 21 Rue Cambon. Finally, the Purples, color of creativity, represent her artists friends and among them Emilienne d'Alecon, the one who helped launching Coco’s first creations - the hats - into the French bourgeoisie.
Discover all the nuances of the new range, they will win you over for colour payoff and thanks to the new formula: more moisturizing and absolutely plumping. After testing them I can say for sure that Rouge Coco is the most hydrating lip colour that has ever touched my lips and I loved the fact that it can be easily built up from sheer to opaque. Moreover the lipstick has a silky texture with a radiant finish and the formula - despite being packed with nourishing waxes - feels super lightweight on the lips and it fills creases and rough patches to help your pout looking and feeling silky, smooth and plump. They aren’t the most resilient lip colours ever (unless you create a base with a Crayon Lèvres, as Chanel Makeup Artist Silvia Dell'Orto suggests) but I see these as the lipsticks you carry in your clutch and touch up throughout the day when needed. Because, let's admit it, also the application of Rouge Coco is a pleasure.
