Non è una novità, ad introdurre il trend del Dot Liner ci pensò Twiggy, nei lontani Anni Sessanta, come escamotage à-la-page per enfatizzare le ciglia. A distanza di cinquant’anni i makeup artist più “inspirati” hanno voluto riportare in voga questa tendenza, attualizzandola con semplicità per portare l’attenzione sullo sguardo in a new way. Basta un punto strategicamente posizionato, infatti, a cambiare le regole del gioco, e che sia blu come quello che Pat McGrath fece sfilare nel 2012 sulla passerella di Anna Sui, o nero e imperfetto come quello di Lucia Pieroni per la PE 2015 di Rochas poco importa, quel che conta è il posizionamento.
Il dot liner al centro dell'attenzione
Giusto sotto le ciglia e allineato con la pupilla, il dot si fa seduttore, cattura gli sguardi, è magnetico e audace; più in basso, e magari accompagnato da altri dot in linea, si fa sbarazzino e ludico. E per quanto possa essere “strano” a primo acchito, alla fine piace e si fa portavoce di una tendenza che vuole spaziare nel nuovo senza dimenticare classe ed eleganza.
Il makeup da abbinare al Dot Liner Trend
Per sfoggiare il Dot Liner trend nel day-to-day basta abbinarlo a un makeup sottotono e naturale, con una pelle perfetta e, perché no, anche radiosamente matte, sopracciglia ordinate e qualche strato di mascara per aprire l’occhio. La sera, si può giocare con le labbra, il Dot Liner Trend accetta tutto, da quella rossa più seducente a quella naturale per non parlare poi di quelle dark o pop che ne estremizzano la contemporaneità.
Come realizzare un dot a regola d’arte?
Per le meno esperte in commercio ci sono degli eyeliner con punta stondata che si prestano, con un solo gesto, a creare il dot perfetto. Per chi, invece, vuole osare con la manualità ci sono diverse opzioni: o la punta di un pennello tondo da intingere in un eyeliner liquido o in gel, o un semplice cotton fioc. Io ho usato quest’ultimo con Calligraphie de Chanel, l’ultimo eyeliner lanciato dal brand francese ma, per rendere il dot più netto ho dovuto mixare l’eyeliner con uno spray per fissare il makeup (Fix’ make-up di Clarins) sul dorso della mano e poi creare il dot.

It’s not a news, but you are going to like it a lot. The Dot Liner trend was introduced, back in the 60's by Twiggy as an à-la-page trick to emphasize her lashes. Fifty years after the most forward-thinking makeup artists wanted to bring this trend back in vogue, updating it with simplicity to bring attention to the eyes in a new way. Just a dot, in fact, can subvert the rules and be it blue like the one created for Anna Sui SS2012 by Pat McGrath, or black and imperfect as that of Lucia Pieroni for Rochas SS2015 it does not matter, what really counts is the placement.
The Dot Liner in the spotlight
Just below the lashes and aligned with the pupil, the dot becomes aseducer, makes heads turn, is magnetic and daring; lower, smaller and maybe vertically aligned with dots, becomes cheeky and playful. And though it may seems "strange" at first glance, in the end it’s something we are all going to like.

To pull off the Dot Liner trend in the day-to-day just combine it with a low-key makeup made of natural, flawless and luminously matte skin , groomed eyebrows and coats of mascara to open up the eye. In the evening, you can play with lips, the Dot Liner Trend accepts everything, from the most seductive reds to the nudes not to mention berries or pop flashes that take it contemporaneity to the extreme.
But how do you get a precise dot?
For the less experienced on the market there are eyeliners with a rounded tip that lend themselves, with a single gesture, to create the perfect dot. For those, however, who want to dare with different sized and textures there are several options: either the tip of a round brush dipped in a liquid or gel eyeliner, or a simple cotton swab. I used the latter with Calligraphie de Chanel, the latest eyeliner launched by the French brand but, to make the dot sharper I had to mix the eyeliner with a fixing spray (Clarins’ Fix' make-up) on back of the hand and then create the dot.
