Fragile girls and anti-cosmetic beauty @ JW Anderson AW14

Nothing happened backstage at JW Anderson. Absolutely nothing. Skin was kept bare and Aaron de Mey for MAC Cosmetics used only concealer on blemishes (applied minimally but cleverly) and powder all over the faces to achieve a ‘never been out in the sun’ look. Brows were brushed up  with some hairspray to keep them matte and… that was all. Like at Victoria Beckham’s, eyelids were  left bare and the natural tones under the eyes were exposed. 

The look was, indeed, almost anti-cosmetic, but it was done on purpose. Beauty inspiration was Virgina Woolf and girls had to be very fragile and poetic.  Anthony Turner, on hair patrol for L’Oreal Professionel, created a minimal and a bit disturbing hairstyle that reflected Anderson’s version of a mad woman. Texture was intentionally matte to  add the ‘disturbed undertone’ and hair had a deep side part (so far, I’ve counted 13 this season) secured in a low ponytail.

Anderson’s intention was to let people feel uncomfortable as they left the show. Well, he made it!

Ispirato a Virgina Woolf, il beauty look portato in passerella da JW Anderson per l’AI2014 è stato volutamente inquietante. Il makeup, quasi inesistente, era composto di correttore sulle imperfezioni e di una spennellata di cipria per dare agli incarnati quel colorito che non conosce la luce del sole. Gli occhi, nudi anch’essi, non sono neanche stati truccati con un concealer, il tutto per far apparire le modelle fragili e poetiche come la scrittrice britannica. Un look, insomma, praticamente “anti-cosmetic”, come lo ha definito il make-up artist Aaron De Mey per MAC Cosmetics.

Anthony Turner, per L’Oreal Professionel, ha anche lui creato un look minimal e disturbato per riflettere l’ispirazione dello stilista. La texture è stata voluta matte per dar vita all’elemento disturbato, e i capelli sono stati pettinati con una riga a lato profonda (se ne sono già viste 13 questa stagione) e raccolti in una coda bassa.

L’intenzione di Anderson era quella di far sentire gli spettatori a disagio una volta finito lo show e, che dire, ci è riuscito!
