The backstage of a fragrance
Di backstage ne ho visti, ma mai uno come questo. Dietro alla creazione di una fragranza non c’è solo un brief, un’idea, un accordo, c’è un’esperienza sensoriale, una scrittura per note nella creazione di accordi, un equilibrio di decimi di grammi. Per Luca Maffei tutto ciò è normalità e per lui “scrivere una formula è come scrivere una ricetta”. Ecco dunque che il naso di AFM Atelier Fragranze Milano ha aperto le porte del suo laboratorio per farci viaggiare nella sua mente e nelle sue sensazioni fino ad arrivare alla fragranza OUD 16, una chicca creata per L’Hotel à Parfum di LabSolue (Hotel Magna Pars Suites Milano) che, incredibilmente, dedica ogni suite ad una nota olfattiva. E la 16 è proprio dedicata all’OUD, quella nota cuoiaia quasi animalizzata a cui Luca Maffei ha dato una nuova vita connotandola in un’armonia legnosa e ambrata dall’identità orientale.
Ingrediente dopo ingrediente (scopriteli nella piramide olfattiva qui sotto), siamo giunti al risultato finale. Inaspettato per un oud. Estremamente elegante. Tanto piacevole da voler essere indossato e il bello sta proprio qui, tutte le fragranze di LabSolue possono anche essere vaporizzate addosso. Per un’esperienza sensoriale a 360 gradi.
OUD 16
Testa: Bergamotto, Zafferano (serve a enfatizzare la nota arabeggiante dell’accordo), cardamomo (fresco, agrumato e frizzante, dà volume spinge la testa)
Cuore: Agarwood Brown Extra, whisky barricato (base creata da AFM unendo note naturali e sintetiche che richiama le note alcoliche e legnose dell’oud), rum invecchiato
Fondo: Patchouli (dolce e fresco), styrax pirogeno, vetiver nave, legno sandalo, labdano (ambra? assoluta morbida e fiorita con aspetto scuoiato, fa pelle), benzoino, vaniglia, musk
I’ve been backstage, plenty of times. But none was similar to where I’ve been invited lately, a fragrance backstage in a laboratory that was filled with olfactory emotions. Behind the creation of a fragrance, in fact, not only there is a brief or an idea or a specific note, most important there’s a sensorial experience, a composition of notes in the creation of harmonies. For Luca Maffei, the nose behind Atelier Fragranze Milano, this is normality and for him “writing a formula is like writing a cooking recipe”. That is why he opened the doors of his laboratory, he wanted us to understand and become part of the process that led him into the creation of OUD16, a niche ambience perfume created for LabSolue (Magna Pars Hotel Suites Milano), the first Hotel à Parfum that, incredibly, dedicates to each suite an olfactory note. Number 16 is a praise to oud, to that animal leathered note to which Luca Maffei has given a new life connoting it in a woody and amber-ey harmony with a pronounced oriental identity.
Ingredient after ingredient (discover them below in the olfactory pyramid), we came to the final result. Unexpected fo an oud. Extremely elegant. So much so that we all longed for wearing it. And the beauty of all LabSolue fragrances relies in here, they are so pure that, even if there are supposed to be for ambiance, you can safely spray them on your skin for a 360° sensorial experience.
OUD 16
Top: bergamot, saffron (it serves to emphasize the Arabic facet of the harmony), cardamom (fresh, citrus and sparkling, it gives volume and pushes the head)
Middle: Agarwood Brown Extra, barricaded whiskey (an AFM base created by combining natural and synthetic notes to evoke bud’s woody and alcoholic notes), aged rum.
Base: Patchouli (sweet and fresh), styrax pyrogenic, vetiver, sandal wood, labdanum ( a soft and flowery absolute that feels like skin), benzoin, vanilla, musk
